11th October 2009: Round 1 Ladies League: Celtic 6-8 Harps 1-5 Player of the Day:Melanie Drumm, Excellent team performance but Mel at full forward was outstanding!! 18th October 2009: Round 2 Mens League: Celtic 3-15 Saint Pat's Mount Eden 0-02 Barry "Berlusconi" Brennan will be happy with this start against the newly formed St Pats, the lads off the mark after a bye in Round 1 Player of the day: Emmet Conway, making his Celtic, and gaelic football debut at 14 on Sunday, young Emmet came on and scored 1-3 in the 2nd half!!! Keep it up mate! Round 2 Ladies League: Celtic 3-6 Gaels 6-2 The girls will look to take some positives from a disappointing defeat, one being the display of new player Jenna Makgill, who making her first start for Celtic was tenacious and unrelenting at right half back. More of the same Thursday Jenna!! 22nd October 2009: Round 3 Ladies League: Celtic 6-10 Dale Paddies 2-2 Mixed performance from the girls, the scoreline masks a poorish first half where we were good but not at full tilt. Big performances from Jenna Makgill, Mel at full forward, wing back 'drea and Penny in the middle but for the 3rd week in a row Sam Chapman was excellent, all over the park hasseling and making a nuisance of her self which she is excellant at!! 3 super points as well, keep it going Potatoe!! 29th October 2009: Round 3: Mens League: Celtic 3-5 Harps 1-3 Efficent performance from the lads who still look like they are trying to find top gear. Good showings from Stephen Connolly, Declan Brennan, Ray McEvoy, Rory O'Grady, Andy Hickey and Ciaran Voyles but the player of the day was prodigal son Darragh Hughes, who was commanding and autoritive at full back in his 2nd game back in the Celtic fold. In the words of McGarnigle " Great shhhhhtuff Darragh!" 1st November 2009: Round 4: Mens League: Celtic 2-14 Marist Rangers 1-6 "Now we are hitting our straps" was the call from Barry Berlusconi on Sunday as a vintage first half performance which saw 8 unanswered points from the hoops set them on their way to victory against title challengers Rangers. Good performances everywhere, notably Rory "Hatchets" O'Grady, Ray "Guevara" McEvoy, "Gorgeous Gordon" Davenport, Ciaran "Vicar" Voyles, Mick "The Baker" Lennon and Barry "Berlusconi" Brennan but player of the day went to excitingly goodlooking corner back Stephen "Crasher Connolly" who read the game well and got up the field to score a superb point, good on ya mate! Round 4: Ladies League: Celtic 4-6 Harps 4-10 "Goals win games" and conceding two in the dying minutes definetly loses them! The ladies were up against it from the start Sunday, missing Laura for the game and Sam for part of it. Anna and Mel played through the pain barrier to make sure we had a team, thanks girls! Take nothing away from a finely oiled Harps machine though the better team came out on top on the day. Victoria made some fine saves in goals, Zoe was tough in the tackle, Sam was bustking round midfield annoying people and Penny and Mel were always a threat upfront, but Player of the day was vice captain Aileen Keane at centre half back who always battles and epitomises the phrase "never say die attitude." Great goal aswell Aileen well done! 5th November 2009 Round 5 Mens League: Celtic 1-10 Gaels 1-10 The hotly anticipated first meeting of Aucklands top two did not dissapoint as both sides went at each other from the off, Gaels probably deserved to be further ahead at half time and in turn Celtic could have walked away with it in the 2nd half but a draw was definetly the fairest result. Darragh Hughes stood out at full back, captain for the day Gordon "The Schlong" Davenport, sporting an interesting "Mo" on his nether regions, was superb in midfield, debutant Ronan Gilsenan was always a threat and Grandad Brennan was in top form in the corner but player of the day was the vegan communist Ray Guevara McEvoy. Quickly becoming my favourite Celtic player, Razor was once again typical Razor, aggressive, full of running and a real leader on the park. Massive point just when we needed one too, all hail the dread locked one!! 8th November 2009 Round 4 Ladies League: Celtic 2-11 Gaels 1-3 A second half power play form Celtic women saw them take the 2 points yesterday and put themselves right back into contention for honours. Vanessa pulled of a brilliant penalty save in the goals, Aileen was superb at fullback, Debutants Aisling Reihill and Elaine "Gussy" Kelly were very impressive, Laura Larkin was at her marathon best charging up and down the field, Alina was excellent throughout and Zoe Bullers "great legs!!" really stood out!!.. Player of the day came down to two players, full forward Mel was unmarkable kicking 1-3 but Penny Chapman, with 1-6 from play from centre half forward, stood out as our star on the day. Well done Penny!! 12th November 2009 Round 6 Ladies League: Celtic 0-13 St Pat's Mount Eden 3-5 St Pat's dramatic change in fortune continued on Thursday night when they beat the champions thanks to a very strong second half performance. The league title is outside their grasp but McGarnigle will have more than one eye on the championship now. Good performers for Celtic were Jack Donaghy, Stephen Connolly, Andy and Gordy in Midfield, Razor and Eoin Coll in the forwards, player of the day was Declan "Rashers" Brennan. 15th November 2009 Round 5 Ladies League: Celtic 0-09 Dale Paddies 0-07 Tough, Arduous game for the girls but at this stage in the league its all about the result and they came out on top thanks mainly to the strength of our defense. Aileen at full back was once again stand out excellent, Captain Anna got through a full game at last and was very tenacious throughout, Gussy sneak hugged her way round the park and Alina was excellent on the '40. Player of the day was our Left half back Andrea Pessione, who spent the game putting her body on the line and putting her head in where ya wouldnt stick a boot!!! 19th November 2009: Round 7 Mens League: Celtic 1-12 Marist Rangers 1-3 We came to make sure we were still in contention on the last day, and left with the title!! Really good showing from the lads last night, defended bravely and were very economical up front. Donall "Danger" Foley in goals was excellent and Rory "hatchets" O'Grady done a superb man marking job on one of the Rangers danger men. Big Gordon is looking more and more like Darragh O'Se every game, while up front the dirty dubs, Voyles and Gilsenan gave as good as they got, with Voyles scoring a peach of a goal...I'm sorry to say . But player of the day was full back Darragh Hughes, the man is hard as nails and gives the impression you cant hit him hard enough. Excellent hands and his clearances were accurate, confident and assured. So as we waited under the club rooms thinking of one last foray on Sunday word of a Harps win in the other game confirmed the hoops had retained their league title for a 3rd year in a row, well done lads, now lets get our drink on tonight aye bro's!! |
