Sorry my friends I have been very slack in the last few weeks with keeping everyone up to date with the goings on of The Hoops. Celtic men knuckled down for Championship time and picked up another Gordy (Gordon Reilly) and Gearoid "The Gook" Donohoe, two horses of Cavan men to add to their arsenal. A preliminary round default from Gaels left Celtic with a game against former Celtic stalwarts, Kevin Mcgarry and Brian Walshs St Pats. Having beaten Celtic in the league, St Pats may have fancied themselves but the champions were clinical and ruthlessly booked their place in the final against old foes/close friends Harps. Celtics superior fitness and running game helped them open up and a hefty lead heading into the closing stages but some haphazard defending from Captain Ciaran Voyles (He was standing on the sideline talking to his wife and child, APE!) allowed Harps to cut the defecit to just 4 points after 2 kick fire goals, but the lads dug deep and saw out the victory, even Mick Lennon scored!!! Despite some excellent performances the ladies couldnt catch Harps who deservedly went on to clinch the title on the last day. Going into Championship time Richie and Stephen refocused the girls and got stuck into trying to salvage our season with a championship title. The return of Fermanaghs Aisling Reihill and a fully fit Anna Poulgrain gave Celtic the boost they needed to defeat Gaels in the semi, despite the absence of influential midfielder Sam "Spud" Chapman. Going into the final hopes were high, apart from long term injury absentee Laura Larkin, Celtic had the full compliment to choose from for the first time since the opening day. A good start saw Celtic lead at half time, but an njury to star full forward Mel Drumm and the concession of three soft goals saw Harps clinch the double, heartbreaking for all involved but a great seasons effort and we will return in September with renewed impitus. That night we had our prize giving, a few drinks were had and passions ran high. To quote local parish priest, Fr Noel Quinlivan "I have never seen anything like it, Ye were like dogs in heat, it was like a fecking school disco, everyone licking the faces of eachother!!" In the mens section Ray McEvoy was player of the year, Declan Brennan finished runner up Donall "Danger" Foley sportsman, Stephen Connolly clubman, Big Gordy was most improved after a huge season while fellow tower [i]Jamie Chipman was best newcomer and who was gonna argue with him!! For the ladies, Aileen Keane won player of the year, Penny Chapman coming 2nd, Jussara Bierman best newcomer, Zoe Buller most improved, Victoria Hawkings best sportswoman
